Sharing Knowledge
Sharing knowledge is not a separate part of ExoticsAtHome alongside the webshop. It is part of offering plants responsibly. Anyone who understands where a species comes from, how it develops and which conditions are important can make a more informed choice and provide the plant with appropriate care.
Making Practical Experience Accessible
A great deal of knowledge has been built up over many years of germinating seeds, growing plants, comparing different origins and monitoring species under varying conditions. Herbert’s expeditions and practical experience with cold hardiness, together with the stories behind rare palms, are another important source of this knowledge.
We do not want to keep this experience exclusively within the nursery. Through product information, in-depth pages and the knowledge centre, ExoticsAtHome makes practical knowledge accessible to other enthusiasts.
The Right Information for the Right Plant
General care guidelines are not suitable for every exotic plant. A tropical palm, a hardy fan palm and a tree fern can differ greatly from one another. We therefore try to link information as closely as possible to the species, its growth stage and the intended use of the plant.
Many years of cultivation experience form the basis of the information we share with our plants. Where the available knowledge is still limited, observation and new experience remain necessary.
Origin and Habitat
Knowledge about a plant consists of more than information about watering, temperature and light. Its natural habitat, local conditions and the way in which it was collected and brought into cultivation also help us understand a species better. Wherever possible, we therefore share information about a plant’s origin and background.
Knowledge Continues to Develop
Practical knowledge is never completely finished. Observations made during cultivation and new information are used to expand and improve existing guidance.
For Other Plant Enthusiasts
ExoticsAtHome aims not only to make plants available, but also to share the accompanying knowledge, experiences and stories. This helps both novice enthusiasts and experienced collectors better understand, choose and care for remarkable plants.
