Our Future
The future of ExoticsAtHome lies in further combining discovery, cultivation, documentation and sharing. Our activities in the Netherlands and Thailand allow us to search for and select tropical plants, cultivate them and then ship them to Europe, while maintaining our connections with European customers, botanical gardens and other specialist companies.
Further Development in Thailand
Since its establishment in 2024, the company in Thailand has expanded to include several greenhouses. Tropical species and palm seedlings are cultivated at this location. Shipments are flown to the Netherlands every week to maintain ExoticsAtHome’s stock, supply botanical gardens and send parcels to the end customers of other webshops.

The location in Thailand offers several practical advantages. Everything in the greenhouses is grown in 100% coco peat, making it easier to prepare the plants for export.
Rising energy prices also played an important role. Tropical palm seedlings can be grown much more affordably in Thailand than in heated greenhouses in Northern Europe. These species require plenty of warmth, which is naturally available in Thailand.
According to Riphagen, there is also a personal reason for further developing the activities in Thailand. He wants to spend a longer part of each year living in a tropical country, particularly during winter. He finds the winter days in the Netherlands too cold and too dark. The company in Thailand enables him to live and work there for part of the year as well.
Back to the Core
The Thai phase of recent years has brought Riphagen back to the core: searching, selecting, cultivating plants slowly and discovering new species in nature.
The aim is not simply to offer more plants, but above all to make remarkable plants available internationally.
More Photographic Material and Knowledge
The further development of ExoticsAtHome also includes sharing photographic material and knowledge. We photograph almost everything ourselves. By following plants through different stages of growth and documenting our cultivation experiences, we can continue expanding the available information.
ExoticsAtHome wants to offer new plant species before they are propagated in a laboratory. In addition, ExoticsAtHome wants to keep exclusive plants in stock by supplying them to botanical gardens as well. In this way, the range, our own cultivation, the photographic material and the knowledge remain connected.
Enabling Others to Take Part
Returning to the core at a later age and devoting yourself to what you truly enjoy is, according to Riphagen, a good way to grow older.
Through ExoticsAtHome, Herbert hopes to enable as many other people as possible to be part of this too.
