About the Musa sp. Siam Ruby Phayu Yai - L

Musa sp. Siam Ruby Phayu Yai

Musa sp. Siam Ruby Phayu Yai is an extremely rare ornamental banana plant known for its dramatic dark red foliage with contrasting light patterns. This selection belongs to the Siam Ruby lineage and is considered a special variant that is highly valued by collectors of tropical plants due to its distinctive leaf pattern.
The leaves initially emerge with greenish tones but gradually develop deep burgundy and dark red colours as they mature. On these dark leaves irregular patterns appear that resemble raindrops or lightning streaks. Because of these dramatic contrasts the plant has a very exotic and decorative appearance.

Characteristics

1. Leaf colour: produces large leaves with deep red and burgundy tones with lighter contrasting patterns.
2. Growth habit: forms a tropical banana plant with a strong pseudostem composed of overlapping leaf bases.
3. Height: remains relatively compact and typically reaches about 2 to 3 metres in height.
4. Leaves: develops broad elongated leaves typical of Musa species which may naturally tear slightly in windy conditions.
5. Inflorescence: produces a hanging flower cluster with bracts that reveal rows of small flowers.
6. Fruits: may produce small bananas that are mostly ornamental.

Care

1. Light: grows best in bright light or gentle sun as strong light helps maintain the deep red foliage colour.
2. Water: requires regular watering and prefers evenly moist soil without standing water.
3. Soil: thrives in loose well draining soil rich in organic matter.
4. Humidity: high humidity supports healthy growth and strong leaf development.
5. Temperature: grows best between approximately 25 and 30 degrees Celsius and is very sensitive to cold.
6. Fertilization: benefits from regular feeding with a balanced or nitrogen rich fertilizer during the growing season.
7. Maintenance: remove older leaves and ensure proper drainage to prevent root problems.
