About the Musa sp. Nono classic 2 - L

Musa sp. Nono Classic 2

Musa sp. Nono Classic 2 is a rare ornamental banana plant admired for its striking foliage colours. This selection belongs to the so-called Nono lineage and is known for producing stable and distinctive colour patterns. It is highly valued by collectors of tropical plants because of its decorative leaves and exotic appearance.
The leaves initially emerge with lighter green patterns but gradually develop stronger colours such as pink, burgundy, and dark red tones as the plant matures. These colours become more pronounced when the plant receives sufficient light. Because of its dramatic foliage and tropical appearance, this Musa is a remarkable addition to plant collections and tropical gardens.

Characteristics

1. Leaf colour: produces large leaves with patterns of green, pink, burgundy, and lighter shades that intensify as the plant matures.
2. Growth habit: forms a tropical banana plant with a sturdy pseudostem composed of overlapping leaf bases.
3. Height: can reach approximately 1.5 to 2 metres under favourable conditions.
4. Leaves: develops broad elongated leaves typical of Musa species which may naturally tear slightly in wind.
5. Inflorescence: produces a hanging flower cluster with bracts that reveal rows of small flowers.
6. Fruits: may develop small bananas that contain seeds and are mainly ornamental.

Care

1. Light: grows best in bright indirect light or gentle sun, as sufficient light helps maintain strong leaf colouration.
2. Water: prefers regular watering and evenly moist soil without waterlogging.
3. Soil: thrives in loose well-draining soil rich in organic matter.
4. Humidity: higher humidity promotes healthy foliage development.
5. Temperature: grows best in warm conditions between about 18 and 30 degrees Celsius.
6. Fertilization: benefits from regular feeding with a nitrogen-rich or balanced fertilizer during the growing season.
7. Maintenance: remove older leaves and regularly inspect the plant for pests such as spider mites or thrips.
