Our Photography and Documentation
Photography and documentation play an important role in how we present plants at ExoticsAtHome. An exotic plant is constantly changing. A young seedling can look very different from a larger or mature specimen, while leaf colour, leaf shape and growth rate are also influenced by light, season and growing conditions.
We Take All Our Own Photos
Every photo used by ExoticsAtHome is taken by us. This allows us to show plants from our own collection and stock. Wherever possible, we show not only the size currently available, but also other growth stages and mature specimens. This provides a more realistic picture of how a species can develop.
More Than a Product Photo
A good photo helps with plant identification, but also reveals something about its structure and growth. The position of the leaves, the development of a trunk, the shape of a crown and the transition from juvenile to mature foliage can all be important characteristics.
By recording these details, we are gradually creating a visual archive that goes beyond a single webshop product photo. The photographic material can therefore be used not only to offer a plant for sale, but also to show the development and characteristics of a species.
Documenting from Practical Experience
Alongside photographs, we collect information about origin, cultivation, growth stages and care. We draw on experience gained in the nursery and from our own collection. This creates information that is directly connected to the plants we cultivate ourselves and come to know through practical experience.
Practical experience is particularly valuable for species about which little accessible information is currently available. By cultivating plants ourselves and documenting their development, we can continue to expand the available information.
Sharing Photographic Material and Knowledge
Sharing photographic material is part of the ExoticsAtHome vision. By combining our photos with information about origin, cultivation and care, we can show not only which plants are available, but also share the stories and knowledge surrounding them.
A name alone provides only a limited picture. Detailed photos help enthusiasts recognise important characteristics and better understand how a plant develops.
An Archive That Continues to Grow
The documentation at ExoticsAtHome is never completely finished. New plants are added, existing specimens continue to grow and experiences are supplemented. This creates an increasingly extensive reference source for enthusiasts, collectors and anyone who wants to know more than just the name and price of a plant.
