More Than a Webshop

ExoticsAtHome was created as more than a place where plants are offered for sale. The webshop forms the practical centre, but around it we bring together plant knowledge, original photography, documentation, inspiration and stories about origins and discovery.

A Plant with Context

A remarkable plant becomes more interesting when its origin, growth and significance within a collection are understood. We therefore connect our range with information about habitats, growth forms, cultivation and care. At ExoticsAtHome, you will find more than just a plant, a name and a price.

This approach is based on decades of experience with seeds, hardy palms, tropical species, wholesale, webshops and international contacts. This practical experience helps us provide plants with the appropriate background information.

Making Remarkable Plants Accessible

Thanks to its plant knowledge, numerous contacts and travels through the jungle, ExoticsAtHome also supplies botanical gardens. These often provide lists containing species that are not always available and sometimes have to be specifically sought in the wild. Many of these remarkable species can therefore also be found on our website. These deliveries also make it possible to keep exclusive plants in stock and make them available to a wider audience.

Because ExoticsAtHome also supplies the wholesale market, private customers can benefit from competitive prices.

ExoticsAtHome aims to offer new plant species before they are propagated in a laboratory. We particularly seek plants that others do not have.

Original Photography and Documentation

All photographs used by ExoticsAtHome are taken by us. They give visitors a realistic impression of the plants, their characteristics and their development.

The Plant Remains the Focus

Herbert Riphagen’s significance did not lie in formally naming new species. He brought rare plants to wider attention, introduced plant material and stories to Europe, tested different origins in practice and built a market and community around these plants.

When palms changed from an enthusiast’s product into a mass-market garden item, part of the market shifted from love and genuine interest towards marketing and money. ExoticsAtHome aims to continue combining commercial availability with a love for plants, genuine interest and a willingness to share knowledge.

Sharing Something Beautiful

ExoticsAtHome wants as many other enthusiasts as possible to become part of the world behind remarkable plants. How wonderful it is to share something beautiful.
